We are excited to announce that Ontario Family Law Solutions has been featured in an article published by CBA National Magazine, in which Kavita V. Bhagat, certified family law specialist, spoke about how family law lawyers are vulnerable to vicarious trauma and mental health challenges due to the emotionally demanding nature of their work.
She said that working in family law means you encounter deeply personal and often heartbreaking situations every day. The situations that your clients are living through don’t stay at the office; they stay with you. And over time, this emotional weight can start to affect how you show up for your clients, your colleagues, and yourself. The article also highlights that lawyers may feel hesitant to speak up or seek help, fearing it may be seen as a sign of weakness or affect how they are perceived within the profession.
So recognizing these challenges and taking necessary steps like setting healthy professional boundaries, understanding your own warning signs, making time to debrief and seeking support when needed can help professionals get out of survival mode and back to doing what they do best.
At Ontario Family Law Solutions, we take both our clients’ well-being and our own seriously. We are always committed to delivering compassionate legal support while fostering a culture of awareness and care within our team.
